2. Participants will learn how to assess programming that will benefit multiple types of women leaders.
3. Participants will be exposed to research relevant to organizational leadership development of women.

 

Session Description:

The need for talent has never been more intense yet many organizations fail to consider the importance of internal development of talent, particularly in the areas of future women leaders. Recent studies indicate that the workforce is now approximately 47% women, yet in leadership position, many industries lag significantly for women to rise. In this presentation, participants will appreciate the relevant strategies that can be applied in multiple industries for effective talent development and inclusive programming.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Kathy Tuberville, Associate Professor of Teaching in the U of M Department of Management, and Faculty Director of the Fogelman Women in Leadership Programs, has a diverse career background in both higher education and business leadership roles. Through various human resource management and marketing positions within Memphis, Tuberville became interested in the role of developing college students for the workplace and has over 25 years of experience in teaching, experiential learning, and working with students in innovative professional development programs.
She has worked with numerous organizations to build recruiting programs that yield high impact talent development programs. She serves in a dual appointment with the University of Memphis as Director of Fogelman Women in Leadership for both students and professional women. The goal is to develop new and engaged leaders in the Mid-south regional community.

She is the faculty advisor for the University of Memphis SHRM Student Chapter and is on the faculty of the Management Department in the Fogelman College of Business and Economics where she teaches HR and leadership courses and advises internships for management and HR students. She currently serves as Chair of 2024 SHRM TN Conference for SHRM-Memphis and coordinates innovative programs for regional HR professionals in her consulting work.

She has served as a faculty advisor for SHRM Student Chapters at two higher education institutions for over 18 years. Programs that have been innovated for the U of M SHRM chapter include HR Discovery Day, HR Academy, and Professional Engagement Night. Students in the U of M Chapter have competed in national SHRM Competition, winning first place in the Central Division in 2017 and participating at the state level competitions in Tennessee. Dr. Tuberville routinely incorporates student SHRM leaders in the SHRM-Memphis professional chapter, including co-hosting the 2022 SHRM DEI Conference with the professional chapter. In 2020, the SHRM Student Chapter was highly involved in the first Student and YP Professional Day at the fully virtual 2020 TN SHRM Conference The chapter has very strong support HR community support and is open to students in all Memphis higher education institution for an inclusive approach to HR career development.

As a career development leader, Tuberville has led career programming for the accounting profession including developing a communications and career course specific to accounting students, the Accounting Careers of Tomorrow program, and customized private organizational and association-based sessions for the accounting profession. These contributions are key to developing the workforce for the growing accounting talent demands. A new program, Explore Accounting, recently launched to help high school accounting students understand the potential of the accounting profession. These programs are collaboratively presented with accounting professionals interested in developing future accounting leaders.

Research interests include leadership, women in leadership, human resource management, experiential learning, and student engagement.
In the 901, she serves on the Board of SHRM-Memphis and The DeNeuville Learning Center for Women n where students are introduced to professionals from all industries. She is also a member of the BIZ Women Leadership Council with the Memphis Business Journal.

Her recent awards include 2023 SHRM national Advisor Impact award, (for student advising), 2023 FCBE Engaged and Creative Teaching Award, 2022 UM Distinguished Faculty Award, 2022, Fogelman College of Business Teaching Outside the Classroom, 2021 George Johnson Teaching Fellowship, MBJ
2019 HR Impact Award, TN SHRM 2020 HR Professional of Excellence, and Memphis Business Journal Super Women in Business Award, 2015. In November 2023, she was also awarded the SHRM-Memphis Lifetime Achievement Award for her work throughout the mid-south region in HR.
